About this stay

Not just another clean-beige standard apartment: in our "Stadtoase" we deliberately let ourselves get creative and dared something more extravagant – a place with character. Across 41 m² on the 6th floor (with elevator), up to 3 guests can stay, and through the windows the view opens up as a panorama over the city. A special centrepiece is the kitchen, hand-built entirely from wood by a local craftsman. A double bed and a sofa bed, a bathroom with a tub and everything you need for a few lovely days make the apartment complete. The location is a dream: right on Theaterplatz, where the opera house, art collections and St. Peter's Church are practically on the doorstep – and the main station is just a few steps away. The city centre with the Roter Turm, the market square and the famous Karl Marx Monument is an easy walk. Chemnitz was European Capital of Culture in 2025; from the museums and the Purple Path sculpture trail to day trips into the Ore Mountains, there is plenty to discover.

Welcome to Stadtoase Chemnitz

Welcome to Stadtoase Chemnitz! We're so glad you're here. You're staying in our stylishly furnished apartment right on Theaterplatz – with a panoramic view over the city from the 6th floor. A quick word about the interior: we deliberately didn't want another clean-beige standard apartment, but a place with character where we let ourselves get a little creative. We really hope you love it. Here are our personal tips for Chemnitz – pick out whatever appeals to you. (Opening hours and prices change from time to time, so it's best to check online quickly before a visit.) ── Getting around ── You're so central that you'll barely need a car here: the main station is right next door, with regional trains, the City-Bahn into the region, and trams and buses (VMS transport network). If you do come by car: there's no parking at the building itself, but paid car parks (Theaterplatz, main station) are available around the clock nearby. The city centre is about a 10–15 minute walk. ── Groceries & breakfast ── For a quick shop, the little supermarket inside the main station (about 3 minutes' walk) is closest – and conveniently open on Sundays too. For a bigger choice, try the EDEKA on Georgstraße (~7 min) or the REWE Am Wall towards the centre (~12–15 min). For breakfast or coffee and cake: the nearby Café Cortina (~7 min), the traditional Michaelis Kaffeehaus (~12 min), or the bakery-café Emils 1910 by the town hall (~14 min). ── Eating out ── A few reliable spots, all reachable on foot or with a short tram ride: · Turm-Brauhaus (~12 min) – a rustic brewpub with its own beer and hearty Saxon cuisine. · Ratskeller Chemnitz (~15 min) – Saxon classics in the vaulted cellar of the historic town hall. · alexxanders (short tram/taxi) – the top choice for a special evening: Mediterranean and seasonal, with a large wine selection. · L'Osteria (~13 min) – an easy-going Italian with the well-known oversized pizzas, good for families and larger groups. · Ông Côi (~8–10 min, at the Brühl) – a popular Vietnamese with fresh sushi, ramen and pho. In the evening, booking ahead is generally a good idea. ── Culture on foot ── The loveliest part of Chemnitz begins right outside your door: · Theaterplatz ensemble (~2 min) – the neo-baroque opera house, flanked by the museum and the neo-Gothic St. Peter's Church. · Art Collections at Theaterplatz (~3 min) – an important art museum focusing on Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Expressionism. · Karl Marx Monument, the "Nischel" (~10 min) – the city's most famous landmark, freely accessible at any time. · Roter Turm, Old Town Hall & market square (~13 min) – the historic core, compact and walkable. · smac – State Museum of Archaeology (~12 min) – 300,000 years of history in Erich Mendelsohn's spectacular Bauhaus department store. · Museum Gunzenhauser (~18 min / short tram) – classic modernism with one of the world's largest holdings of Otto Dix. ── Day trips ── Chemnitz was European Capital of Culture in 2025 – and the region has plenty to offer: · Augustusburg Castle (~30 min by car) – a Renaissance hunting castle above the Zschopau valley with one of Europe's largest motorcycle museums; the ride up on the historic funicular is an experience in itself. · Chemnitz Industrial Museum (~10 min by tram/car) – the story of why Chemnitz was once the "Saxon Manchester"; a good half-day, even in the rain. · Purple Path – the permanent open-air sculpture trail by international artists across the city and region, the lasting legacy of the 2025 Capital of Culture (free, year-round). · Klaffenbach Moated Castle (~20 min by car) – an idyllic Renaissance moated castle with exhibitions, a restaurant and a golf park. · Fichtelberg & Oberwiesenthal (~1 hr by car) – a full-day trip into the high Ore Mountains to Saxony's highest peak, up via Germany's oldest cable car. ── One last thing ── We wish you a wonderful time in Chemnitz. If something isn't right after all, please tell us straight away while you're still here – then we'll take care of it immediately. And if you enjoyed your stay, we'd be absolutely delighted with a review: it means a great deal to us as small hosts. Yours, Paul & Lilly
